Asymmetrical-Motion

LABORATORIES

Over the course of the last six years, I developed a series of investigation laboratories.

These contexts allowed me to study specific questions, which serve to continue my development as a pedagogue and to amplify the methodology of Asymmetrical-Motion.

These laboratories are collaborative in nature, with the intention to amplify and generate new perspectives.

1

THE MATERIALS

This investigation project had the objective of interfacing the disciplines of physics, architecture and contemporary dance.

We proposed an exchange based on the idea of SPACE from these three perspectives.

THE MATERIALS project had two phases:

Conde Duque

This laboratory took place thanks to the support of the C.C Conde Duque in January 2019.

We worked for two weeks, five hours each day.

I invited the following to participate in this laboratory:

  • Hector Hernandez, Physic
  • Marta Muñoz, Architect
  • Poliana Lima, Coreographer

The following 23 dancers were selected to participate :

Natalia Fernandez; Synnove Urgilez; Raul Pulido; Raul Marcos; Isabela Rosi; Manon Siv; Tania Garrido; Lucia Sanchez; Oihana Altube; Javiera Paz; Manuel Egozkue; Libertad Pozo; Laura Ramirez; Lucia Sanchez; Irene Ducaju; Maria Stadlober; Pablo Zamorano; Maria Tamarit; Clara Muller; Danielle Mesquita; Jimena Perez Salerno; Borja Llorente; Diego Carrasco.

Pradillo

This laboratory took place thanks to the support of the Teatro Pradillo in November 2020.

We worked for two weeks, five hours each day.

I invited the following to participate in this laboratory:

  • Hector Hernandez, Physic
  • Marta Muñoz, Architect
  • Poliana Lima, Coreographer
  • Pablo Martin Jones, Musician

The following dancers were selected to participate:

Raffaella Menchetti; Raúl Pulido; Oihana Altube; Synnove Urgilez; Raul Marcos; Lucia Sanchez; Oihana Altube; Libertad Pozo; Laura Ramirez; Danielle Mesquita; Jimena Perez Salerno; Africa Clue Nieto; Dasha Lavrennikov.

SPACE, SOUND AND MEANING

For the SPACE, SOUND AND MEANING investigation project, I wanted to focus on the material nature of sound as a way to perceive space.

If the gaze, or the relationship to the visible is habitually the nameable element that organizes movement, it interests me to place focus on the perception of sound.

Changing point of view for point of listening and inhabiting space by perceiving the vibrations of sound. Observe how bodies in movement engage with this material, their reverberance when touching the space, when they are touched by what sounds.

While space affects our way of moving (vision), sound alters our perception of space and movement (listening and touch).

It interests me to observe the deviations of the constant influence between body-sound-space.

La Visiva

This laboratory took place thanks to the support of La Visiva in Barcelona.

Between January 2022 and January 2023.

I invited the following to participate in this laboratory:

  • Cecilia Colacarai, Dancer
  • Dasha Lavrennikov, Dancer
  • Milagros García Salgueiro, Dancer
  • Paul Guenot, Dancer
  • Joan Cot, Musician

3

PERCIEVE-DANCE

This investigation laboratory, realized in conjunction with Poliana Lima, had the objective to develop a series of practices based on the relation between senses and dance.

Thousands and millions of receptors in the whole body allow us to feel what happens in internal and external environments. This process emits answers that constitute our interaction with the world.

In this laboratory we proposed an approach to dance which emphasized the receptive dimension of the body. The body perceives, feels and attends to what happens.

In our laboratory, we like to dedicate our vision and shared practice of dance: the relationship between observation and movement as a possibility of consciousness.

4

MOVEMENT METHODOLOGIES

This investigation lab, realized in conjunction with Poliana Lima, had the objective to develop a series of movement patterns and sequences that exist in specific relation to our present way of dancing.

Development of procedures to share in our technique classes. Focusing on specifics such as: relation between legs – spine; mobility in the head and connection with the spine; etc.

We believe that it is important to continue studying through our own bodies.

Dedicate time to analysis specific to certain biomechanic relationships which can be incorporated by students with all levels of experience.
